Behold, an hour is coming, and has already come, for you to be
scattered, each to his own home, and to leave Me alone; and yet I am
not alone, because the Father is with Me. John 16:32
Jesus was speaking to His followers
as He was preparing to go the cross to die for our sins. Like us,
they wanted nothing to do with the cross, it goes against our old
nature. And yet, it troubles our conscience and grieves the Holy
Spirit. But we have this promise: If we are faithless, He remains
faithful, for He cannot deny Himself. 2Tim 2:13
Whenever I leave, it is because I do not want to deny
myself. The flesh gives quick gratification, but it cannot truly
satisfy. It opposes God's grace that brings peace to our
soul. For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit
against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that
you may not do the things that you please. Gal 5:17
Jesus has told us that unless we deny ourselves and take up our cross,
we cannot follow Him. (see Mat 16:24) Following the way
of our flesh may well gratify, but we lose the peace of God and walk
away from Jesus.
The good news is if we confess our sins He is faithful and just and
will forgive our sins and make us clean. (see 1John 1:9)
What a Friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer.
Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged; take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness; take it to the Lord in prayer.
Lord, I have opposed You by seeking the
gratification of my sinful nature. Forgive me. By Your grace I will
deny myself, and follow You.
"These things I have spoken to you, so that
in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take
courage; I have overcome the world." John 16:33
